WED., JAN 29 & THURS., JAN 30, 2014

January 29, 2014, Wednesday. I didn’t go to NH today. Carl called about 7:30 PM asking about getting Mom to bed and I explained about teeth cleaning. An email from Regina at Hospice says Mom seems better.
January 30, 2014, Thursday. I went to the NH about 9 AM. Mom was in the big TV room. I got her a hat and said hello then picked up my paintings from Activities. I saw photos of their event yesterday. I returned to the NH about 4:40 PM. I fed the birds, blinds partially open. I went to Mom room and saw Souhange in bed, looking ill. There was a wastebasket with what looked like vomit in it. Mom was in the Great Room eating a banana. Donna from activities said that they had birthday cake also today before the Bingo. I wheeled Mom back to her room and C.N.A. Sandra brought Mom’s tray.    C.N.A. Roxanne came and took Souhange’s temperature and I overheard “no temp.” C.N.A. Sandra returned with a tray of clear soup, jello and such for Souhange. Souhange did not eat and had O2 on. Mom did not eat well. Only a few bites of the chili, half of the cornbread and a few bites of fruit were all she ate. Mom and I hung up clothes, then sang and danced. The birds and the acrobatic squirrel put on a show today. We did some breathing and read a new letter from Quembe.  I returned Mom’s tray to the hall cart. Mom wanted to go to bed and so I assisted her into her nightgown and into bed. I put the DVD back on Fred A/Ginger R. and gave Mom a caramel. I left with dirty clothes to wash. Mom was cheerful and alert to her environment. She could not remember which of her sisters was Quembe’s Mom and could not name her sisters.

MON., JAN 27 & TUES., JAN 28, 2014

This is one of Mom's paintings from years ago. It won't be in the art and craft exhibit but another from the same period.

January 27, 2014, Monday. I did not go to the NH today. I got an email from Regina, Hospice, saying that she planned on visiting Mom today.
January 28, 2014, Tuesday. I talked to Riley and he saw Mom yesterday, cleaned her teeth, checked O2 and DVD. He said that he could see Mom tonight at supper. I went to the NH about 3 PM. I fed the birds blinds closed. I spoke to Donna on the phone this morning and she said Tara might not be in today so I went in to help with activities this afternoon but Tara was there when I got there. I delivered three paintings for their art and craft exhibit tomorrow. Donna went with me to Mom’s room to identify two of Mom’s paintings to include in the exhibit. I won’t be able to come to the exhibit because of work tomorrow. Souhange had a friend visiting and Mom was in bed, O2 on, teeth in, glasses off, and DVD playing. When I cleaned Mom’s glasses a lens popped out and I popped it back in. Good thing she is scheduled to get an optometrist visit soon. Yvonne came and got Mom into her chair. I brushed her hair and gave her a hat then Carl arrived with fresh flowers. He also filled the feeders. The birds and squirrel returned by the time he came inside. I cleaned Mom’s nails and Souhange asked me to clip one of her nails that was snagged. Carl took pictures of me and Mom. Souhange lay down for a nap and I accompanied Mom to the Great Room. We waved at Carl. I got Mom a coffee and left her in activities.  I returned to the room, signed out and left about 3:45 PM.

SAT., JAN. 25 & SUN., JAN. 26, 2014

January 25, 2014, Saturday. I went to the NH about 4:50 PM. I fed the birds, blinds open. Mom was in the dining room. We returned to her room. Mom propelled herself about half the way. I gave Tara the info about the art I will bring on Wed. I hate “one day shows”. Mom’s TV was on TCM. I put the Winged Migration DVD back on for the meal. Yvonne brought Mom’s tray. With two packets of soy sauce, Mom ate pretty well. Mom was contrary at first. I sang a song, brushed her hair and Mom became more pleasant and cooperative. She ate the dessert, ice cream, by herself without assistance. We looked at photos, watched some TV, channel surfed then I noticed the DVD was not playing. So I took that home and changed the DVD to Fred A./Ginger Rogers, Follow the Fleet. We hung up clean clothes. I assisted Mom into bed. Mom’s roommate, Solange Souhami, returned from supper. I cleaned Mom’s teeth, her glasses, put her O2 on and gave her a chocolate. I left about 6:30 PM. Mom had difficulty identifying people in the photos but was pretty good at problem solving and attentive to her environment. She is coughing less.
January 26, 2014, Sunday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed. Mom was in the big TV room. I took her outside for a few minutes. We just walked around the end of the building and back. The weather is supposed to change tonight so we won’t have another opportunity to go outside for awhile. We went to her room and Adam brought her tray. The TV was stuck so the Parrots of Telegraph Hill doesn’t work anymore. I brought back the bird Migration DVD and it got stuck also. I put Fred A./Ginger Rogers follow the fleet on then put the TV on TCM and My Fair Lady. Mom ate pretty well. She ate all of the potato puree, some of the eggs, about ½ the fried potatoes, and about ½ of the Jello. We sang a little and danced. I brushed her hair. I met Sam, Ms Souhami’s son. He said that French is her first language and told me a little about themselves.  I assisted Mom into bed and changed the TV to the DVD. I cleaned her glasses, her teeth, gave her a chocolate, a caramel and put the O2 on.  I gathered up the dirty clothes and left about 6:30 PM. Mom was contrary and argumentative at first but became more cooperative and pleasant after we sang and danced.

THURS., JAN. 22 & FRI., JAN. 23, 2014

January 23, 2014, Thursday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. Mom was in the big TV room in an outfit I didn’t recognize but it has her name and room number written in the neck. We went to her room and I met her new roommate, a very nice lady whom I can’t understand very well. Staff says that she speaks French and “Swiss” which is actually a German dialect. I noted that Carl had signed Mom's visitor book yesterday. The C.N.A. brought the tray right away and Mom ate well tonight. The TV was on TCM so I put on the Migration DVD and Mom watched the birds while she ate. She ate all of her potatoes, a few bites of bread, some green beans and almost half of her ground meat and gravy. I added salt, 2 packets of ketchup, 2 packets of mustard and some curry. She ate about half of her cake. I noticed that her garbage bags that I use to line the dirty clothes hamper are missing and Ms. Knickerbocker’s quilt is on Mom’s bed. Also there was a dirty diaper sitting on the bedside table. I returned Ms. Knickerbocker’s quilt to the Nurse’s station, threw away the dirty diaper and got a garbage bag from Roxanne to line Mom’s clothes hamper. A C.N.A. came and took Mom’s vitals and Mom was at 92% for her O2 level. We sang some songs and clapped hands then I changed the DVD to Fred A. in Broadway 1940. We hung up some clean clothes and I gathered up her dirty clothes. I called for assistance and helped Mom into bed. I cleaned her teeth and glasses, put the O2 on and left about 6:50 PM. Later I bought another package of garbage bags and wrote “herpes” on 45 of them. I went back to the facility and changed the lining of the clothes hamper to a Glad bag because their bags are too weak. I spoke to Nurse Steve about the theft of the bags.
January 24, 2014, Friday. I went to the NH about 4:50 PM. I fed the birds, blinds half open. Mom was in the dining room so I brought her back to her room. She propelled herself part of the way. Tara reminded me of the Art show on Wed. I met Soulange’s daughter and granddaughter. Soulange, Mom’s roommate, also goes by “Sousou”. Soulange is in a wheelchair but is very self-directed. I put TVLand on the TV then went and got Mom’s tray. Mom ate well tonight; almost all of her potatoes, half of her ground meat, about 1/3 of the peas and all of her lemon tart plus cranberry cocktail. I returned the tray. We looked at photos, clapped our hands and sang some songs. I put the Winged Migration DVD on and Mom wanted to watch that. So I assisted her to bed, cleaned her teeth, her glasses, put her O2 on and gave her a chocolate. I left about 6:30 PM. Mom was alert and attentive today.

TUES., JAN 21 & WED., JAN 22, 2013

January 21, 2014, Tuesday. I went to the NH about 4:50 PM. I fed the birds, blinds half open. I replaced the Christmas wreath on her door with a Spring Flower wreath. Mom was in the Great Room. She said she was thirsty so I got her a coffee and we returned to her room. She drank the coffee all down.  I went and got her tray. Mom ate the liquid, juicy part of the chicken and dumplings, most of the carrots and peas, a few bites of bread and about half of the pears. We sang some songs and clapped and played then channel surfed some. Mom was tired and wanted to go to bed before she finished eating. I called for assistance to put her to bed and Yvonne came right away and got her to bed. I cleaned her teeth and glasses. Yvonne put the O2 on and I noticed the new cap on the O2 and she is getting moisture with her O2 today. Mom may have just been tired but she seemed to not feel well tonight. I left about 6:30 PM.

January 22, 2014, Wednesday. I did not go to the NH today. Email from Regina at Hospice said that Mom’s lungs sounded slightly better and that Mom seemed to feel better.

Monday, January 20, 2014

SUN., JAN 19 & MON., JAN 20, 2014

January 19, 2014, Sunday. I went to the NH about 4:45. I fed the birds, blinds closed. Mom was in the big TV room which was very warm. I accompanied her to her room then went and got her tray. She ate about half of her food tonight. I added ketchup and curry to the fish with the tartar sauce. Then added curry and parmesan to the rice. I also added sugar to the fruit crumb dessert. Mom is still coughing and the O2 machine is still bypassing the water bottle. I brought in another pair of pink leggings plus the washed bedclothes. We also hung up some clean clothes. Mom wanted to go to bed the whole time I was there so I called for assistance and helped Mom to bed. She was sopping wet so I changed her and Yvonne came just as I was finishing up. We talked about the O2 machine. I cleaned her teeth, her glasses and gave her a chocolate and a mint and left about 6:30 PM. There was an almond in the chocolate that I didn’t spot and had to get that out of her mouth.
January 20, 2014, Monday. I didn’t go to the NH today. I spoke to Riley and he plans on visiting her today and checking on her tonight. Email from Regina, Hospice, says that she checked on Mom, gave an extra breathing treatment and will follow-up on getting the water bottle on the O2 machine fixed.

FRI., JAN. 17 & SAT., JAN. 18, 2014

January 17, 2014, Friday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed. I saw Sam the Social Worker and she said that Mom is going to get a roommate next Thursday, Jan. 28th. Tara was bringing Mom down from the Great Room with her new hat that she made plus there was another hand crafted hat from paper and bric-a-brac in her room. We went to her room where her tray was waiting for us. Mom didn’t eat well but she did eat some of the baked ziti, all of the tomatoes from the salad, half of her ginger cake, a couple bites of bread and a cookie. Mom was coughing throughout. We channel surfed then went to see Nurse Steve about Mom’s cough.  Steve brought a breathing treatment to Mom’s room and we watched TV while the treatment ran then I took it off and we hung up some clean clothes. I assisted Mom to bed, cleaned her teeth, her glasses and changed her. I put the TV back on the DVD and put her O2 on. I left about 7 PM.
January 18, 2014, Saturday. Carl called from the NH to say that Mom’s O2 machine was broken and he couldn’t get the DVD to play. I told him how to get the DVD to play and it worked but it does sound like the O2 machine is not operating. He informed the staff of the problem. I went to the NH about 5 PM. The feeder was full. I met Mom at her door as she was wheeling herself out of her room, dressed in her nightgown with a sweater. Roxanne came in behind me with set up to clean Mom’s hands and nails because Roxanne had found her without her diaper on in her bed playing with her feces. She had stripped the bed and got Mom cleaned up somewhat, changed. Roxanne cleaned her nails and hands thoroughly, and discarded the equipment thereafter. I put on a pair of leggings I brought and they fit well so I will decorate and label the other three pair and bring them in. Mom was still coughing. She did not eat well tonight but she did eat the pudding and the cookie after some clapping and singing and persuading. Mom said she was tired and wanted to go to bed. I cleaned her teeth and glasses and helped her into bed. We channel surfed and I checked the O2. It was set up to by pass the water bottle so I found Nurse John and he explained that the bottle cap was not working properly but at least now she is getting O2 dry, not humidified. I gave Mom a mint, got the dirty laundry and left about 6:45 PM.

WED., JAN. 15 & THURS., JAN 16, 2013

Mom's hair looks very nice when Margaret gives her a wash & set. Mom loves going to the beauty parlor.

January 15, 2014, Wednesday. I didn’t go to the NH today. Carl called from the NH just as I walked in from teaching and said that he and Charlotte were at the NH assisting Mom with her supper. He said that he and Charlotte were also eating there in the dining room.
January 16, 2014, Thursday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed and put a little water on the grass. I spoke with Donna in Recreation about exhibiting some work at the arts and crafts exhibit on Jan 29th. Mom was in the dining room with chips and crumbs on her dress indicating snacks today. She propelled herself part of the way back to her room. Yvonne set up her tray in her room before we got there. Mom ate sparingly but did eat the tomatoes and some of the Frito Pie and a piece of fruit then about half of a cookie. We sang some songs and clapped hands then hung up some clean clothes I brought. I called assistance and Yvonne came right away and I assisted her getting Mom into bed. I cleaned her teeth and glasses. We channel surfed some. I gave her a chocolate and left about 6:40 PM.

SUN., JAN. 12, MON., JAN 13 AND TUES., JAN 13, 2014

January 12, 2014, Sunday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed. Adam was getting Mom up, glasses on, DVD playing, sound down, teeth in. I gave her a lap blanket and a sweater, brushed her hair, turned up the sound. Adam brought Mom’s tray. Mom ate pretty well except the veggies which were tough. She ate over half the fish, potatoes and pears. We sang some songs and did some stretches and channel surfed on the TV. Then I put it back on the DVD of Top Hat, which Bill cleaned and fixed. When I started to assist her to bed, Mom was sopping wet so I called for help. Adam came and we got Mom changed and into bed. I gave Mom a chocolate and a mint, cleaned her glasses and teeth, put the O2 on and left about 6:30 PM. I told Nurse Steve, Adam and Roxanne that I would Not be there tomorrow but Riley would be by to visit.
Mom continues to tell me some nonsense statements and is attached to her stuffed dog.

January 14, 2014, Tuesday. I went to the NH about 3 PM. the birds were at the feeder and the blinds were half open. Mom was on her bed, teeth in, no glasses, O2 on and sound up on the DVD. I changed the channel, got Mom’s dirty clothes together and got Mom’s new dress from the closet. Mom had ‘leggings’ on and there was a note that someone had visited Mom. Amy? Julie? I couldn’t make it out. Mom needed changing so I called for help. I changed Mom and got her into her chair then Adam came and said that Mom ate well last night. I told the Nurse station and Adam that I would not be there to feed Mom tonight. We went to the party and a volunteer gave Mom some lemon pound cake and cranberry cocktail. It was cool in the Great Room so I got her a neck scarf and a sweater. I left with Mom’s dirty clothes about 3:55 PM.
I WENT BACK to the NH about 7:30 PM. Mom was resting on her bed, blinds open, no O2, no glasses, teeth in and the TV was on PBS. I closed the blinds. Mom started pulling her hair so I gave her a brush then we hung up some clean clothes. I got her teeth and cleaned them, gave her the glasses, put O2 on and gave her a chocolate.  I put the TV back on the DVD, adjusted her bed and left about 8 PM.

THURS., JAN. 9, FRI., JAN 10 & SAT., JAN 11, 2014

January 9, 2014, Thursday. I went to the NH this morning about 10 AM to get Mom to the Nail Spa. Mom was asleep on her bed, blinds closed, O2 on but cannula out of place, glasses on, teeth in. The DVD of Barclays was playing, sound down. I awoke Mom, brushed her hair, cleaned her hands, opened the blinds, turned off O2 and turned up the sound on the TV. Mom chose gold fingernail polish! I got Mom into her w/c, gave her a lap blanket and hat. I got the dirty clothes together then accompanied Mom to the activity. A C.N.A. stopped us on the way and took Mom’s O2 which was low, 85%. In the Great Room I saw Nurse Diane back with her badge saying Unit II manager! I left Mom at a table with a towel in front of her and spoke to Annie before I left with the laundry about 10:30 AM. I returned to the NH about 4:50 PM. Mom was in the Great Room with crumbs on her shirt and indications of snacks. We returned to her room. Mom propelled herself part of the way. Roxanne checked Mom’s room for neatness then went to get her tray. Mom and I hung up clean clothes and played some hand games. Mom ate some of her ziti, the carrots out of her veggies, almost all of her garlic bread and ¾ of her strawberries. She really wanted to go to bed. I got her into her nightgown and called for assistance to change Mom. I got started then Yvonne came and finished up. We channel surfed some. I cleaned her teeth, her glasses and put her O2 cannula in place. I left about 6:30 PM, leaving the TV on the DVD of Barclays of Broadway.
January 10, 2014, Friday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed. Mom was on her bed, O2 on, cannula out of place, glasses on, sound down on DVD, teeth in. Mom was glad to see me and I assisted her into her chair. We channel surfed and I looked at her legs. Luz came in and changed her bandages and put cream on the wounds. They are slow healing but no infection. I clipped her toenails. Big toe nail on her R foot looks dead. I mentioned this to Luz and she said podiatrist would check it. I got her supper. The cart came out about 5:15 PM. Mom ate more than half her food. We channel surfed, sang some songs and played hand games. I assisted her back into bed. I cleaned her teeth and glasses. I put the O2 on and Mom is still expressing affection for the stuffed dog. Mom was alert and cooperative tonight but had a lot of trouble remembering words and did make comments that I could not follow. I put the DVD back on and left about 6:50 PM. Resident David stopped me again and asked for a portrait sketch. How much would I charge? I said I would think about it.
January 11, 2014, Saturday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. The bird feeders were full plus popcorn on the ground and blinds open. Mom was on her bed watching Singing in the Rain on TV channel, sound down, teeth in glasses on, O2 on but cannula out of place.   There were brand new flowers and a banana peel in the trash and Carl had signed in and visited about 3-3:30 today. Adam came in and we got Mom into her wheelchair. I put on the cleaned up DVD of Top Hat and it played just fine. We channel surfed then Adam brought Mom’s tray. Mom ate about half of her food. I don’t think she attended activities today. After supper Mom wanted to go for a walk so I carried the tray back to the dining room and Mom wheeled herself the whole way. In the dining room I took over and we went through the covered patio. It was cool out but I put my jacket on Mom and we looked at the sky. We went back to Mom’s room and I assisted her into her nightgown and into bed. I cleaned her glasses and her teeth and gave her a chocolate. Mom is still attached to the stuffed dog, Fido. I spoke to Tara tonight about bringing something for the arts & crafts exhibit. I left about 7 PM.

TUES., JAN. 7 & WED., JAN. 8, 2013 NEW SHOES, A GIFT!

January 7, 2014, Tuesday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. The feeders were full, blinds open. Mom was in the Great Room at an activity conducted by Hospice. Mom was glad to see me. There was evidence of popcorn and treats. We returned to her room and Adam brought her tray. Mom did not eat well; some of her Frito pie and salad then all of her cookie and over half of her Mandarin oranges. Sam the social worker brought Mom a NEW PAIR OF SHOES! Sylvia the supervisor of the facility bought them for Mom to replace the one missing shoe. We channel surfed, looked at photos then we brushed her hair. Mom was good at identifying people in the photos, tonight. We played hand games, doing the alphabet in sign language. She did pretty well. Adam came by and we talked about art. I assisted her into bed and put the TV back on the DVD. Mom said she had not seen this one before (day 2). I left about 6:45 PM with the shoes to mark them.

January 8, 2014, Wednesday. I went to the NH about 5 PM. The birds were fed, blinds half open. Mom was resting on her bed watching TVLand. Her cannula was on the floor, glasses on, no teeth. Adam walked in with me and got Mom into her chair.  I gave her the new shoes and took the old ones to wash. The new shoes are a little snug but okay. I got her teeth, cleaned her glasses and checked the Fred A. DVD which was skipping and stopping. So I changed the DVD to Barclays of Broadway. Adam brought Mom’s tray and Mom ate well tonight. There was no evidence of having gone to activities today. She ate all of her sweet potatoes, most of the chopped ham, all of the cornbread and over half the fruit. Mom kept rolling her head around and seemed fidgety. I imitated her movements and it made me dizzy. We did some stretchies, sang some songs then she asked about her dog, looking at the floor. I got her the stuffed dog which she petted  vigorously. She would not play hand games with me tonight. I helped her into bed then left. I went to the Nurse station and told Sandra that Mom is fidgety tonight. She said she would check on her.

SUN., JAN. 5 & MON, JAN. 6, 2014

January 5, 2014, Sunday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM and left about 6:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds closed. Mom was just returning from the Great Room with Tara. I took over and got Mom to propel herself down her hallway. Roxanne brought Mom’s tray and Mom ate pretty well tonight; some of the lasagna, the cauliflower, half of the roll and all of the mixed fruit. We hung up the clean clothes I brought and sang some songs, clapped our hands. We channel surfed a little bit then Roxanne came and put Mom in bed and changed her. I gave Roxanne the chocolate covered macadamia nuts from Helen since neither Mom nor I can eat them.  I gathered up dirty clothes and put the DVD back on Singing in the Rain. Mom’s glasses are so bent that they don’t stay in place well. I cleaned Mom’s teeth, adjusted her O2 and said good-night. Mom was alert today but her problem solving was very low.

January 6, 2014, Monday.  I went to the NH about 4:50 PM, blinds closed. There was still birdseed from the day before. It is very cold, not above 35 today. Mom was on her bed, no O2, no glasses, teeth in and sound down on the DVD. I started to get Mom up when Adam came in saying that he was late and behind. He returned with Mom’s tray. Mom ate well, tonight; most of her sandwich and over half of her potato salad, some of her marinated veggies and one of the cookies. She wanted to go back to bed immediately. Roxanne came and got her tray and said that they were short handed tonight. We hung up clean clothes I had brought. I called for assistance but no one came so I assisted Mom back into bed and changed her. We channel surfed then I cleaned her teeth, glasses and gave Mom a chocolate. We sang some songs then I put on a Fred A. DVD and left about 6:50 PM.  Mom was cheerful but had difficulty with simple problem solving like how to put her hat on her head.

FRI., JAN 3 & SAT., JAN 4, 2014

January 3, 2014, Friday. I went to the NH about 4:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds partially closed. Mom was in the Great Room and I accompanied her back to her room. Her room was very neat and all was “apposto”. Mom’s hair was done and she looks great and was in a good humor. Roxanne brought Mom’s tray. Mom ate about 1/3 of her chopped ham, a few bites of spinach, some of her cornbread and all of her pudding and drank her Boost. We channel surfed and I cleaned her teeth, her glasses. I gave Mom a chocolate. Mom was tired and wanted to go to bed
so I assisted her into bed. She was sopping wet so I called for help. Roxanne came right away and I assisted her getting Mom changed and into bed. Mom was constipated and I was trying to get her to push when she said “Get away from me or I’ll kick you in the face” which shocked Roxanne. I got a mint out and showed it to Mom and she became very cooperative and pushed. I gave her the mint and Roxanne got her adjusted in her bed. I showed Roxanne where I keep the “bribes”. I put the TV back on DVD of Singing in the Rain and left about 6:30 PM. I told the Med Nurse about Mom being constipated.
January 4, 2014, Saturday. I went to the NH about 4:45 Pm and left about 6:45 PM. I fed the birds, blinds open. Mom was on her bed, no O2, teeth in, no glasses, DVD playing. She was happy to see me and evidence is that she did not go to activities today. I got her up and into her chair. Roxanne brought Mom’s tray. I put the Winged Migration DVD on for the meal. Mom ate some of her cheeseburger, the carrots out of the peas & carrots, and some of the fried potatoes., none of the banana with the sprinkles. We hung up clothes, did some personal care then I assisted her back to bed. She was sopping wet so I called for assistance to change her. Jaylynn came and got her changed. I cleaned her teeth, her glasses and put the O2 on. We channel surfed some then I put the Singing in the Rain DVD back on and gave Mom a chocolate. As I was leaving, I saw a raccoon in the enclosure outside Mom’s room.

Thursday, January 2, 2014

WED., JAN. 1 & THUR., JAN 2, 2014

January 1, 2014, Wednesday. I went to the NH about 4:40 PM. I left about 6:30 PM.
I fed the birds and forgot the scoop. I left it hanging on the fence. C.N.A. Jaylynn was getting Mom into her w/c. The O2 was on but no teeth. I got her teeth and Jaylynn laughingly told me Mom was argumentative today and stuck her tongue out at her. Funny girl. I put Mom’s old shoes on her and brought her new shoes home to wash. I also got her dirty clothes together to wash. I got Mom’s tray. Mom ate pretty well, a little less than half of her tuna sandwich, some of her peach cobbler, some of her beets and noodles. We channel surfed and hung up the clean clothes I brought from home. Jaylynn came and I assisted her getting Mom into bed and changed. I washed her teeth, cleaned her glasses, and changed the DVD to Singing in the Rain. The evening with Riley may have stimulated Mom because Mom was more aware of her environment tonight, commenting on it getting dark outside, talking about the pictures on the wall. Riley signed the book for yesterday  3-6 PM. We looked at the photographs tonight and she was better in identifying people in some of the photos.
January 2, 2014, Thursday. I went to the NH about 4:20 PM. I talked to Sam the Social Worker earlier today and agreed to bring Mom’s single surviving blue shoe for ID purposes if they can find the other one. I had also talked with Candy Sandlin earlier about the 2014 changes in SS. Mom was on her bed watching Singing in the rain turned down low, O2 on but cannula out of place, teeth in and her glasses under her pillow. The blinds were open and the birds fed. I got Mom up and she wanted my sweater so we switched sweaters. We hung up some clean clothes I brought. I got her tray and she ate pretty well; almost half the Chili, half the cornbread but none of the fruit. Carl brought all new flowers today and there was a banana peel in the trash. He signed in around 2:30. Mom & I channel surfed then went for a walk. We visited the Christmas tree, sang some songs then went to the covered patio and got Cheetos. We returned to her room with Mom doing a lot of her own propelling. We shared the Cheetos, channel surfed then I assisted her into bed. Mom was alert but was using non sequitur speech more than usual. Words strung together but nonsensical. I put the TV back on Singing in the Rain and she said she had not seen this film before so I left it on that. I left about 6:50 PM.
